Unique, pet friendly accommodation Eumundi – a converted rail carriage just metres from the iconic Eumundi Markets. The Little Red Rail Carriage is quirky, fun and a very affordable place for a weekend getaway
1 Queen bed
About the space
Little Red is a converted 1940’s Queensland Rail guard’s carriage that was built in Ipswich.
The carriage is set on 4 green acres of land right in the heart of Eumundi and only minutes from the famous markets. It is located at the back of the owners grand home and looks out over the picturesque lake. It is a very private and tranquil place to have a weekend getaway and other than the hospitable host popping by with a glass of wine or the family dog dropping in to say hello you will likely not see or hear another soul for the duration of your stay.
The carriage has been thoughtfully restored and decorated with a comfortable Queen size bed, good quality linen and towels, a small fridge and a lot of little extras like decent wine glasses, jars of lollies, games, books and more.
The bathroom is located next to the pool behind the carriage and is easy to access. A large deck with fairy lights and a good size outdoor setting is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy the serenity.
This is a great spot to take your puppy. Penelope was greeted with her own bowls to use, a toy and a personal welcome card from Clancy, the Border Collie.
With all that land to explore she had a great time sniffing around and frolicking in the long grass. The property is not fully fenced but we found it easy enough to keep her close by, with few distractions and the knowledge that the road was some 50 meters up the lane.
Things to do in Eumundi and surrounds
Eumundi is a charming small town with around 1500 permanent residents. It is famous for its Markets which are held every Wednesday and Saturday and are considered by many to be the best in the country!
There is also one of the best bookshops in the Australia in Eumundi, Berkelouw Books, a treasure trove of literally delights that is a very hard place to leave!
Other things to do in the Noosa Hinterland area with your dog include:
Noosaville is less than a 15-minute drive from Eumundi.
With its 2km long esplanade along the Noosa River filled with parkland, small sandy beaches, picnic tables and BBQ’s, cafes, boutiques and a boat ramp, this is the perfect spot to walk your dog and is great for the whole family.
There are a number of places where you can hire boats and watersports equipment and OBoats are pet-friendly. Penelope loved her first trip out on the water on a BBQ Pontoon boat and it definitely won’t be her last!
Noosa needs no introductions and it’s also no surprise that it is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia.
You will find many of the cafes along Hastings Street are very pet-friendly but you won’t be able to take your pooch on the Main Beach or into Noosa National Park.
What you can do, however, is visit the Dog Park located at the back of Noosa Woods. It’s a beautiful spot which gets incredible sunset views and it’s even a nice spot for a swim. It has to be one of the best dog parks around!
It’s also worth mentioning the iconic Riverlight Ferry that travels between the Tewantin Marina and the back of the Sofitel on Hastings Street. These classic riverboats are beautifully maintained and are the perfect way to see the sights along the river and in the Sound. They are happy to accept dogs that can sit on your lap and offer a wonderful sunset cruise option that is very popular. Best book in advance!
Visit Cooroy and Pomona
The historic towns of Cooroy and Pomona are s short drive from Eumundi and deserve a few hours of your time. The drive on the back road is really beautiful and there are a number of places to stop and get panoramic photos of the surrounding valleys.
Eumundi Restaurants and bars
There are not a lot of places to wine and dine in Eumundi but there a couple that are quite exceptional!
The Store probably does the best coffee in town although Berkelouw Cafe is also good.
There is a great pub, The Imperial although dogs cannot go into the beer garden. They do provide a hitching post if you are happy to use it. The older, daggier Joe’s Waterhole Hotel has a big pet-friendly beer garden out the back and is perfectly fine for a burger or counter meal and a cold beer.
Il Mio Posto is a small Italian bistro very close to the Little Red Carriage and has some of the best Italian food we have ever had, anywhere! It is possible to sit outside in their courtyard with your dog or pick up and take back to the carriage like we did.
Right next door is Sala Thai Eumundi who do excellent Thai takeaway ( no dogs allowed) and one of the best red duck curries we’ve had.
Just a few minutes out of town is a great little brewery, Terella Brewing who have live music on Saturdays and food trucks with Tacos, Pizzas and more. They are very dog friendly and in fact have a farmyard full of goats, pigs, chickens and more that were rescues, surrenders and orphans.
Eumundi is a great place to base yourself for a weekend getaway on the Sunshine Coast. There’s a lot of things to do and see in the area and it is a short drive down to the beaches of the coast, without the price tag many places charge.
Little Red Rail Carriage is the perfect pet friendly accommodation Eumundi and both you and your pooch are sure to have a weekend to remember.
