It is no secret that Australia has some of the best wineries in the world. Queensland is not generally associated with these world-class names but a change is in the wind with a number of new and successful wineries near Brisbane, and even in the city itself, making quite a name for themselves.
If you don’t have the time for a weekend getaway from Brisbane these Queensland wineries make a great day trip and not only offer some great wines but often some indulgent extras, like fabulous restaurants and gorgeous views.

City Winery in inner-city, trendy Fortitude Valley is a working micro-winery sourcing grapes from across Australia’s key growing regions. In recent months they have also opened a cellar door in the CBD too!
Enjoy a fascinating tour of the premises with expert winemakers and learn about wine from across the country without leaving Brisbane! Delicious meals are served in the restaurant with a focus on regionality and locally sourced produce and they often cook over Ironbark on the 4-metre fire-pit.

This one’s a no brainer with the wonderful Calile Hotel just 50 metres down the road. Arguably one of Australia’s best restaurants and home to Hellenika recently names the Courier Mail’s best restaurant in Queensland.
SOMERSET VALLEY WINERIES
Food and wine go hand-in-hand, and nowhere is that more true than at Winya Wines in Sandy Creek, one of the best wineries near Brisbane.
This property began as a beef cattle property before owners Gary and Sue Pratten decided to add winemaking to their repertoire in the late 1990s. Today both their wine and Black Angus beef is award-winning, and on offer at their beautiful cellar door.
Winya Wines prides itself on its warm and friendly country hospitality, and you’re sure to feel totally welcome as you step inside their humble cellar door.
Here, you can try a variety of their local wines, while also learning more about the winemaking process and industry. OCEAN VIEW ESTATE
Head out for a leisurely drive through the rolling hills on the outskirts of the city and arrive at Ocean View Estates, a little piece of heaven in the form of a winery near Brisbane.

Where to stay in Somerset Valley
Ocean View Estate has some charming cottages that can be booked individually or in groups.
Cottages are self-contained and feature a fireplace as well as a flat-screen TV, DVD player and game console. The balconies offer expansive views of the surrounding area.
A free wine tour is available at 11:00 from Thursday to Sunday. Other activities available include horse riding and wine tasting on location at an additional charge.
MORETON BAY WINERIES
Beautiful Sirromet Winery is the type of place wine dreams are made of. This gorgeous winery is located on an expansive estate that overlooks the dazzling Moreton Bay, meaning the views are almost as fabulous as their award-winning wine.
They also have an excellent restaurant called Restaurant Lurleen’s, or a café called Tuscan Terrace if you want something a little lighter or more informal.
Tastings take many forms here, so there’s something for everyone. In addition to standard wine tastings, they also offer premium tastings as well as winery and vineyard tours.
Therefore, whether you’re an experienced sommelier or just getting started with wine, you’re sure to find something suitable. It’s also worth checking out their website as they put on frequent events, especially on the weekends when there’s usually live music.

Sanctuary by Sirromet have beautifully appointed luxury ‘glamping’ tents on-site with both doubles and family rooms available.

Settings don’t get much more picturesque than that at Cedar Creek Estate. With a winding tree-lined driveway that leads you up to the cellar door, it’s a beautiful sight.
You’re sure to fall in love as you sip their excellent wine during a personalised tasting. They offer an excellent range of whites, reds and fortifieds from their own label as well as other producers throughout Queensland.
There’s much more to Cedar Creek Estate than just wine tasting, however. This is the kind of place you could easily spend an afternoon or more – there’s an excellent restaurant serving up delectable meals, as well as an art gallery.
Plus, this one is not just for grown-ups – there’s even a “Glow Worm Cave” to explore, which is sure to delight the whole family.

Where to stay on Mt Tamborine
Songbirds Rainforest Retreat has been a favourite with visitors for years and is hard to beat on many levels. Cabins are very private and you really feel connected with nature and the Australian rainforest. Witches Falls Cottages are similar but a little more contemporary and continue to get rave reviews after many years.
Families love to stay at Kidd Street Cottages which are fully self-contained including wifi, Netflix and BBQ’s. Very quaint and cozy with room for the kids to run around in safety too

BRISBANE WINERIES – FURTHER AFIELD
OVERFLOW ESTATE 1895
The recently opened Overflow Estate 1895 has been a labour of love for its owners for decades and is now open for visitors to enjoy.
Set on a 4000 acre historic property overlooking Lake Wyaralong the estate includes a small but very good restaurant offering up some seriously good food such as pizzas and curries as well as providing live entertainment on weekends.

How to get there :
From Brisbane head west initially towards Ipswich. Follow the Cunningham Highway to Yamanto then head south towards Boonah. Turn left (east) onto the Boonah-Beaudesert Rd and travel 15 k. This takes about an hour.
